Entertainer’s Delight

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MICHIGAN

As competitive swimmers and enthusiastic entertainers, our clients always dreamed of building a pool, pool house, and outdoor entertaining space at their home. When the Coronavirus hit in 2020, they decided to make this dream a reality, inspired to spend more time outdoors and make the most of their two-acre property.

With the pool house, we made selections to both complement, and contrast with, the traditional, shingle-style main house. We matched the main house stone and carried through the beautiful bluestone from the pool deck.  Utilizing shiplap, dramatic lighting and whimsical wallpaper to highlight the homeowner’s fun personalities.

We chose durable Sunbrella fabrics, linen furniture-slipcovers, and indoor-outdoor rugs to support our clients’ active lifestyle, and completed the living space with decorative beams and a stunning fireplace. Contrasting with the organic, neutral palette of the walls and furniture, we included poppy, artful details such as oversized, iconic Slim Aarons prints poking at 1960s poolside glamor.

Additional features in the pool house include a golf simulator, changing room, and kitchen/bar area, combining the ultimate in fun and functionality. With a goal of bringing the outside in, we chose natural textures for the bar area, including Palecek woven bar stools and quartzite countertops, and warm gray cabinets to complement the bluestone floors.

The whole home opens up to the pool area, and we wanted to make sure the pool house flowed right into the outdoor dining and cooking spaces. A StruXure motorized pergola was added to the outdoor dining area to ensure its use even in inclement weather.  We furnished the space with Oversized chairs and a custom leathered-granite table top for a comfy and textured feel.
